Control your speech " The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of fool gushes folly"(prov. 15:2) Yesterday's devotional was about controlling your moods. Once we learn to not act upon how we feel, we will learn to not speak how we feel. Remember, our moods should not dictate how we act or speak. The word tells us if we can control our speech we can countrol our entire nature:"We all stumble in many ways.
If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his WHOLE body in check"(james3:2). It is so easy to speak out before the Lord, and to speak when we aren't supposed to. The Holy Spirit may even keep us from preaching the Gospel (acts 16:6). That is why we need to be sensitive to the Holy Spirits guidance. "My spirit who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth..."(isaiah 59:21). God places the words in our mouths to speak, and the Holy Spirit tells us when and with what words. Thats why one of my many favorite verses is ecclesiates 5:2- "Do not be quick with your mouth or hasty in your heart to utter anything before God.. Let your words be few".
We need to slow down and be still to hear God speaking, to feel the Holy spirits guidance. One of my favorite stories in the Bible is when God called Moses. In Exodus 4:10- Moses responded " I am slow of speech and tongue". The Lord replied in verse 11 and 12"Who gave man his mouth? who makes him deaf or mute... Is it not I the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak..." Let the Lord dictate your actions and speech. Let Him be glorified through you; He chooses the unqualified and makes them qualified! We need to slow down at times to hear Him. God doesn't yell at us; He whispers. "Every word of God is flawless...Do not add to His words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar" (prov. 30:5-6). Let God speak through you today!
